motion picture is being be produced by Historical Entertainment and LionHeart FilmWorks, This picture tells the
amazing true story of the Confederacy's last great invasion of the
north, in July 1864, and the subsequent attack on Washington, D.C.
that almost brought the northern war effort to its knees.
This
feature film is being directed by Kevin R. Hershberger, director of
the award-winning feature, Wicked Spring, from a script written by Hershberger and historian John D. Pagano. It will tell the true story of this incredible campaign from Richmond, to Petersburg
to battles at Lynchburg and General Jubal Early's fight down the Shenandoah Valley -- defeating two Union Armies in the process
The Confederates crossing the Potomac River into Maryland, and the ransoming of Frederick and Hagerstown
The pivotal Battle of Monocacy (July 9, 1864), and the desperate defense by Union General Lew Wallace
Finally, the Confederates reaching the gates of Washington, and missing their chance to capture the Union Capitol by mere minutes.
"No Retreat From Destiny" will be a dramatic documentary of the events surrounding the 1864 Battle of Monocacy - but, unlike the usual sort of documentary, the movie will tell the story of the battle and the campaign through the eyes of the men who fought and died on the farms of Western Maryland. The story will be told via dramatic re-creations of the events of 1864, using actors and re-enactors to bring this story of the common soldiers, the Generals and the Presidents to startling life.
The closest film this picture could be compared to is the amazing HBO series "Band of Brothers": a faithfully accurate, historical drama that foregoes the traditional over-use of narration, old photographs, maps and historian interviews. "No Retreat From Destiny" will employ all the modern feature filmmaking techniques available to tell this story, including: dynamic, accurate dialogue, faithfully documented uniforms, civilian clothing and props, award-winning cinematography and directing, strong screen-storytelling, intense special effects, and an original motion picture musical score by an award-winning composer David G. Russell.
